Abstract

Avian Influenza Disease (AI) is a disease that can cause high mortality up to 100% in laying hens so it is very harmful. One of the strategic steps of AI disease control and prevention is vaccination by inducing immunity before infection with avian influenza disease. AI vaccine development strategy is needed to increase the company's market share of the organization. The purpose of this research is to analyze the development strategy of AI vaccine according to the requirement of laying chicken breeder in West Java. Data analysis uses quality function deployment (QFD). The result of the research indicates that the consumer's priority of absolute weight is the composition (5,51), laboratory service (3,78), certification (3,42) and price (3,33). Technical requirements as a step to translate customer requirements into technical steps to achieve a match between AI vaccines developed with consumer desires from absolute weight values is to make coctail compositions 89, set competitive prices (75), to vary the packaging volume (64) ) and from the relative weight value of making the coctail composition 88, setting the competing price (65), making the product innovation a viral content update based on disease progression in the field (56), making the smaller dosage pack volume (55). Managerial implications based on research results which is recommended to manufacturers to meet consumer needs is to focus on development, improvement, planning and control to the priority of the variables that are concerned with designing AI vaccine products.Keywords: avian influenza, laying hens, strategies of improving, vaccine AI, quality function deployment

Abstract

This research aims to assess the effects of female directors’ presence and characteristics on firm profitability, measured with Return on Assets. Observed characteristics include education, age, and foreign nationality. 364 publicly-traded non-financial Indonesian corporations were observed from 2013 to 2016 (n=1,456). Our fixed effects panel regression analysis finds that the presence of female directors on the board positively influences profitability: women bring in a productive dynamic that complements the style of the male-dominated board. Meanwhile, none of the other independent variables significantly affect ROA, signifying that our results do not correspond with Upper Echelons theory. We also recommend corporations to appoint female board members based on merits and not just for the sake of diversity, as they may improve firm performance.Keywords: female directors, firm performance, profitability, upper echelons, corporate governance

Abstract

Life cycle of the firm has an important role in the dynamics of firm’s capital structure. A firm will take different funding decision along the life cycle because the firm’s characteristics that affect the capital structure will adjust itself as the tranformation of the life cycle occuring. The research objectives were to analize the dynamic of firm’s capital structure across three-life cycle stages of Indonesian manufacturing companies listed with a total sample of 121 companies observed during the period from 2011 to 2016. By using dynamic panel data analysis with Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) model, we find that profitability and liquidity affect the firm’s life cycle for a growing stage, meanwhile the fixed asset, growth opportunities, profitability, and liquidity affect the capital structure for a mature stage, whereas only liquidity that affects capital structure for a decline stage. The coefficient of lag dependent variable of GMM model representing the previous year capital structure showed an adjustment rate of capital structure. The lowest speed of adjustment occurred on the decline stage which was orderly followed by the growth and mature stage.Keywords: capital structure, life cycle of firm, firm’s characteristics, dynamic panel data analysis

Abstract

Rimbawan Muda Indonesia (RMI) is an independent non-profit organization (NGO) that focuses on natural resources and environmental issues. This NGO aims to develop the conservation of natural resources. In order to achieve the vision and mission, the organization is not compatible with conducting the business model optimally, hence new strategies are needed to fix the business model. The aim of this research: (1) To identify and obtain the map (portrait) of the current RMI business model; (2) To analyse the SWOT of each element in RMI’s business model; (3) To design an alternative strategy as an improvement on the current business model. This research used the combination of the Business Model Canvas (BMC) approach and SWOT matrix analysis. According to the analysis results, it could be concluded that RMI needs to conduct a business model improvement on nine BMC elements that consists of eight formulation alternative strategies including: 1) creative fund-raising strategies to the donor(s) that focus on youth and women issues, 2) one issue focus, 3) live-in community organization, 4) a fund-raising strategy by self-promotion space roadshows and attending donor events, 5) Capacity building through knowledge sharing amongs staff both internal and inter-network, 6) Outside Java Networking development, 7) Improvement on relationship to donors through e-mails intensively and on roadshows, 8) Donor visit due to the stop of collaboration. Mentioned strategy alternatives are elaborated on the form of improvement programs that will be described in each element of business model canvas.Keywords: business models, BMC, NGO, SWOT, RMI

Abstract

The aim of the study was to explain the relationship between attitudes and interests in caring for pets. The theoretical basis of this research is Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). This study used a survey and sampling method conducted at several animal clinics in Jakarta. The number of samples obtained in this study amounted to 178 respondents selected by convenience sampling method using questionnaires and direct interviews. Data analysis using SEM method. The results showed that the attitude toward behavior and perceived behavior control had a significant effect on the behavior intention. This indicates that the more profits a pet owner earned in maintaining an animal, the more it will encourage interest in caring for pets better. The managerial implications for animal care product and service providers are to create a variety of products and develop a business for animal health care and services.Keywords: pets, attitude, behavior intention, theory of planned behavior

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to analyze consumer’s perception of marketing mix, to analyze the effects of marketing mix towards purchase decision, and to formulate strategies to increase consumer purchases at Furnimart Bogor. The data retrieval technique was conducted using in-depth interviews to key persons in Furnimart, consumers and obtaining data from the previous research. There were 13 variables used in this study with 120 samples chosen at random. The data were processed using descriptive analysis and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM), through LISREL 8.72. The results of the research showed that consumer perception on the marketing mix consisting of product, price, place and promotion stated that 75.83% of consumers rated the product design as good, 60.5%t competitive price, and 75.63% said that Furnimart store location was easy to reach and offered attractive promotion. The results of SEM analysis showed that the most influencing components of the marketing mix towards the consumer’s purchasing decisions of furniture products were price and promotion.Keywords: furniture, marketing mix, perception, purchasing decision, SEM

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to provide an examination of the impacts of the intellectual capital on the firms' financial performance that is focusing on profitability, productivity, and market value. It was conducted on manufacturing companies in Indonesia which were listed in Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX). The samples of this research were 93 listed manufacturing companies with the total number of 465 firm-year observations in five years. VAIC method by Pulic was used in measuring the intellectual capital in this research. Based on VAIC approach, intellectual capital consisted of human capital (HCE), structural capital (SCE), and capital employed (CEE). There were ten regression models used to assess all the relationships of independent and dependent variables. The result showed that VAIC had significant relationship towards financial performance but not towards the market value of the companies. While in regards to each component, HCE was found to have no correlation towards both market value and financial performance. The SCE was found to have a negative significant relationship only towards the market value. Meanwhile, CEE was proved to have a significant relationship towards both market value and financial performance.Keywords: intellectual capital, financial performance, market value, VAIC, manufacturing industry

Abstract

This study integrates the determinant factors of external and internal factors that affect the Bank BRISyariah Non-Performing Financing (NPF) in the period of Quarter I 2010 to Quarter IV 2017 by using multiple regression analysis. The external variables themselves consist of Inflation Rate, Benchmark Interest Rate/BI Rate, Economic Growth and USD/IDR Exchange Rate while internal factors consist of Return on Assets (ROA), Net Income Margin (NIM), Growth Financing, Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR), Bank Rating (consisting of Good Corporate Governance, Risk Profile, Profitability and Capital) and NPF Management/NPF handling. Based on this methodology, the results with multiple regression analysis indicate that under existing contracts or financing contracts, the influencing factors are that 1) NPF in murabahah contract is influenced by bank rating - good corporate governance, exchange rate and benchmark interest rate; 2) NPF in ishtisna contract is influenced by bank rating - risk profile, bank rating - good corporate governance, NPF handling and inflation rate; 3) NPF in qardh contract is influenced by bank rating - rentability; 4) NPF in mudharabah/musyarakah contract is influenced by the rate of inflation; 5) NPF in ijarah contract is influenced by bank rating - risk profile, bank rating - good corporate governance, bank rating - rentability, financing growth and inflation rate. This research produces external and internal factors that need to get attention in order to handle non-performing financing based on financing contract better.Keywords: non-performing financing, sharia bank, external factors, internal factors, financing contract

Abstract

Analysis on the relationship between competitive position and efficiency with the focus on the Indonesian commercial banks is still very rare. On the other hand, the commercial banks contains banks have systemic impact when they have troubles. The objective of this analysis is to examine the direction of the relationship between competitive position and efficiency which has managerial and policy implications for the parties concerned. The relationship was evaluated using Granger-causality test, where previous studies for Indonesian banking sector did not use this test. The quarterly financial data of each bank sample, balanced sheet and profit/loss statement, were used to calculate the efficiency score and Lerner index. The data were taken from the website of Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK). Lerner index was used as an indicator for competitive position of banks, and higher index means a stronger competitive position. A score calculated by data envelopment analysis (DEA) method is a measure for bank efficiency. Dynamic model is estimated by generalized method of moment (GMM) to address endogeneity and heteroscedasticity issues. The study found that there is a significant one-way positive relationship between efficiency and competitive position, and the causality runs from efficiency to competitive position. The policy implication in this finding is that regulators should avoid implementing a regulation, which is counterproductive in strengthening bank’s ability to compete in the market.Keywords: competitive position, DEA, efficiency, Granger-causality, pricing power

Abstract

Human resources are the key to the company's success in achieving company's goals. One of the things that affect the performance of employee is the employee’s talent. PT PLN (Persero) is a company that implements talent management to manage human resource in order to achieve maximum performance. This study aims to analyze the implementation of talent management, to analyze its impact in improving the employee’s performance, and to formulate the implementation of managerial implications for the employee development of PT PLN (Persero) APP Cawang. This research was conducted using a questionnaire towards 68 employees of first-line and middle management at PT PLN (Persero) APP Cawang. The data was analyzed using Structural Equation Modelling - Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The conclusion of this study is the company should provide some development programs for talented employees to improve their performance. The results show that there is a significant relationship between talent management variables and the employee’s performance in PT PLN (Persero) TJBB APP Cawang. Talent management is very influential on employee performance in PT PLN (Persero) TJBB APP Cawang, which is 38.2% and the remaining 61.8% is influenced by other factors.Keywords: state-owned enterprises (BUMN), first-line management, middle management, employee performance, SEM, talent management
